Entry requirements
Azerbaijan entry requirements for U.S. citizens
What a U.S. tourist needs to enter Azerbaijan: the e-visa, the government fee, how long you can stay, passport rules and registration, with official sources.
What you need to enter Azerbaijan
For a tourist trip, U.S. citizens need two things: a valid U.S. passport and a visa issued before travel. The rule is: under review — see the official source1. Tourists get it online through Azerbaijan's ASAN Visa system.
Plan on having the e-visa approved before you leave home. Do not count on getting a visa at the airport.
How to apply
You apply yourself on the official ASAN Visa website, under review — see the official source2. Type the address in your browser instead of clicking ads or links on other sites. Have your passport at hand: the details you enter must match it exactly.
How long you can stay
A standard e-visa is for a single entry and allows a stay of up to under review — see the official source4. It must also be used within a set period after it is issued, so apply when your travel dates are firm.
Rules change, and Azerbaijan's government decides how long you can stay. Check the official site before you travel.
Passport rules
under review — see the official source6Rules change and the destination government decides, so confirm this on the official site before you travel. If your passport will not meet this rule, renew it before you go. Renewing by mail takes under review — see the official source7 plus mailing time: see Renew your passport by mail. Short on time? under review — see the official source8 Read Urgent travel: getting a passport fast.
Check your passport stamps too. under review — see the official source9
In some cases the State Department issues a second passport book. under review — see the official source10 See Second passport book, and check the official source for your own case.
Travel advisory
The U.S. Department of State's travel advisory for Azerbaijan is under review — see the official source5. The level can change at any time. Read the full advisory before you book and again before you go; the link is under "Sources and verification" at the end of this guide.
