What you need to enter Jordan

For a tourist trip, the answer is: under review — see the official source1. U.S. citizens need a visa, and it is issued for a fee when you arrive at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman and at most border crossings.

According to the U.S. Department of State, Jordan's Ministry of Interior also offers an online visa application: under review — see the official source5.

Entry rules change often, and the Jordanian government decides who may enter. Check the official sources before you travel.

If you plan to cross there, check the official sources well before your trip.

How long you can stay

A visa issued on arrival normally allows a stay of under review — see the official source3. To stay longer, you must register at a police station before that time ends.

The conditions can change, and the Jordanian government decides how they apply. Read the official terms before you buy.

Travel advisory

The U.S. Department of State rates Jordan at under review — see the official source4. Read the full advisory before you decide to travel, and check it again before you leave; it can change at any time.

Step by step

  2. Decide where you will enter. If it is the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge, arrange your visa or permit before you travel.

  4. At Queen Alia International Airport or another crossing that issues visas, get your visa and pay the government fee, unless the Jordan Pass covers it.
